We are an independent editorial resource, not a garage. We don't repair vehicles, we don't hold stock, and we don't fit engines. We research BMW engines, publish data-driven guidance, and route your enquiry to a network of vetted specialists who do the actual work.

Full process, funding model, and what happens after you submit an enquiry, below.

What We Are

We are an independent BMW engine resource, not a garage.

We don't repair vehicles, we don't hold engine stock, and we don't fit engines. What we do is research — we analyse real UK enquiry data, specialist interviews, and third-party sources to produce reliable guidance on BMW engine failures, costs, and ownership decisions.

Then we connect owners who need a repair or replacement with a network of vetted specialists who are equipped to do the work. We are the middle layer: the research and routing engine, not the spanner-wielding shop.

Our published methodology and editorial standards set out exactly how we operate.

How It Works — 3 Steps

From symptom to quote to repair — we make it simple.

Step 1: Research

Start with our failure guides, symptom hubs, and engine knowledge centres. Understand what's wrong, what it costs, and what your options are. All our data is tagged and verified.

Step 2: Compare Quotes

Use our quote comparison tools to get real, no-obligation prices from vetted specialists. You'll receive supply-only and fitted estimates, so you can make an informed decision.

Step 3: Connect & Repair

Choose a specialist you trust — each one meets our published vetting criteria. They will handle the diagnosis, supply, and fit. We stay involved only to ensure the process runs smoothly.

Throughout, you have access to our data pages, economics guides, and case studies to validate every step.

How Specialists Are Vetted

We don't work with every specialist — only those who meet our strict criteria.

Every specialist in our network is checked against seven published criteria, including genuine BMW specialism, trading history, written warranty on supply and fit, engine provenance, response time, complaint handling, and insurance. We also apply four automatic disqualifiers — any one of which removes a supplier regardless of anything else.

Vetting is not a one-off event. Specialists are reviewed continuously against response time, completion rate, and post-job outcomes. If a specialist's performance slips, routing is reduced or stopped. Our verified outcomes page shows how we track this.

We never recommend a specialist we wouldn't use ourselves. Our expert panel also reviews our technical content to ensure the guidance we give is accurate.

How We're Funded — Stated Plainly

This site is free to use because specialists pay us for the enquiries we send them. You pay us nothing, and we take no commission on the work itself.

We'd rather explain that openly than let you assume the site runs on goodwill. And it's precisely why our editorial independence matters: if we only ever told people to replace their engine, we'd generate more enquiries in the short term and destroy the reason anyone trusts us in the long term.

That's why our repair vs replace framework is published in full — including the 70% threshold above which we tell BMW owners not to replace — and why pages like is an N47 failure a write-off and when should you scrap a BMW exist at all.

We are also part of the Engine Finders network, sharing the same funding model and editorial standards. Our full position is set out in our editorial standards.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial decisions are driven by data, not by commercial relationships.

We accept no payment for positive reviews or for suppressing negative findings. If an engine has a known weakness (e.g., N47 timing chain, N63 hot-vee issues), we state it plainly, regardless of how many enquiries that engine generates.

Every number on this site is tagged and traceable — see our data verification page. We publish our methodology in full, and we maintain a public corrections log.

We are not affiliated with BMW AG or BMW UK. We are independent, and we hold ourselves accountable to our readers and to the data.

What Happens Next

After you submit an enquiry, here's what you can expect.

  1. Enquiry received — we route your details to up to three vetted specialists who cover your area and engine type.
  2. Quote within 24 hours — you'll receive supply-only and fitted quotes, with warranty and provenance details.
  3. Compare and choose — review the quotes, check the specialist's credentials against our published criteria, and decide who to proceed with.
  4. Repair or replacement — the specialist handles the work. We follow up to ensure the outcome meets our standards.
  5. Feedback — we use your feedback to improve our data and to update our specialist reviews.

If you haven't found what you need yet, our diagnostic wizard and repair vs replace calculator can help you narrow down your options. And our contact page is always open for questions.
