We are an independent editorial resource, not a garage. Our expert panel ensures every technical claim, failure pattern, and repair recommendation is grounded in real-world practice. The panel reviews all content before publication and after any substantive update.

Full panel member profiles, selection criteria, review process, and our commitment to independence, below.

Panel Members

Our panel is composed of five independent experts who collectively cover BMW engine design, diagnostics, rebuilding, and real-world workshop practice.

We do not name individual panel members publicly, because their role is to provide independent technical review — not to serve as endorsers. However, we publish the criteria and experience they bring to the panel.

Selection Criteria

Panel members are selected based on specific, verifiable criteria — not on commercial relationships or personal connections.

Our specialist vetting process follows similar principles — we apply the same rigour to the experts who advise us.

Review Process

Every piece of content that contains technical claims — failure mechanisms, diagnosis, repair costs, and preventative advice — is reviewed by at least two panel members.

The review process has three stages:

  1. Technical accuracy — Are the failure patterns correctly described? Are the root causes and mechanisms accurate for the specific engine code and model year?
  2. Practical feasibility — Can a specialist actually perform the diagnosis and repair as described? Are the labour hours and costs realistic in a UK workshop?
  3. Clarity for owners — Is the language plain enough for a non-mechanic to understand? Are the next steps actionable?

After review, we incorporate feedback, and the content is updated. Major corrections or updates are logged in our corrections log. Our editorial standards set out how we handle disputes between experts.

Independence & Conflict-of-Interest Policy

We take independence seriously. Our expert panel is not a rubber stamp — they are empowered to challenge our content.

Panel members are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest, including:

No current panel member has any such conflict. If a conflict arises, the member recuses themselves from reviewing content related to that entity. Our editorial standards and specialist vetting pages provide additional safeguards.

Ongoing Updates & Continuous Review

The panel is not a one-time consultation. We work with them continuously to keep our content current.

As new failure patterns emerge, or as BMW issues new Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or recalls, our panel is consulted to update relevant pages. We also review content annually to ensure costs, part numbers, and vehicle values remain accurate.

Changes driven by panel feedback are logged in our corrections log and, where significant, are noted on the affected page. Our data verification page explains how we source and update data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't you name the panel members?

Our panel members are independent reviewers, not endorsers. Their role is to ensure technical accuracy, not to lend their names to commercial promotion. Naming them could create pressure to agree with us rather than challenge us. We respect their expertise and their privacy.

Are panel members paid?

Yes, panel members receive a modest honorarium for their time, reflecting their expertise. However, the payment is not contingent on their reviews — they are free to reject or correct any content without penalty.

Do they review everything?

Every page that contains technical claims — failure patterns, diagnosis, repair costs, preventative advice — is reviewed. Some editorial pages (like this one) are not reviewed unless they contain technical content.

Can I recommend an expert?

We welcome suggestions. If you know a BMW engine specialist with deep UK experience, please use our contact page to share their details. We will consider them for future panel openings.

Do the experts work for BMW?

No. All panel members are independent and are not employed by BMW AG, BMW UK, or any dealer network. Their independence is a condition of membership.

Independent Experts Panel members are not affiliated with BMW or with any supplier we recommend.

Published Criteria Selection and review criteria are published, not vague promises.

Conflict-of-Interest Policy Members must declare conflicts and recuse themselves when relevant.

Not a Garage We research, review, and route. We never claim to do the work.
