How we built this failure rate data.
Source: Internal CRM quote-request data from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, combined. Full calendar year 2025. 24,650 unique quote requests across all brands; 5,060 relate to BMW engines. Failure rate is measured as enquiry volume — the number of replacement requests received for each engine code.
What "failure rate" means here: enquiry volume reflects the number of owners who requested a replacement engine for a specific code. This is a proxy for failure frequency, but it is not a failure rate against the total vehicle population. A higher volume can mean a larger vehicle parc, older vehicles reaching replacement age, or a genuine reliability issue.
What this data cannot tell you: we cannot calculate a true failure rate (failures per 1,000 vehicles) without total vehicle parc data. Use this data as a guide to relative failure patterns, not as absolute failure rates.
